A South Carolina teen was arrested Friday for impersonating a police officer on Facebook — all in an effort to meet women for sex.

Horry County police got a phone call on March 14 from a woman who aid an officer was harassing her on the social media site. She said the man, who claimed to be a Horry County Police Officer, was sending her message on Facebook asking to meet up for sex, according to a police report covered by WMBF News.

Real police officers messaged the man, and he denied ever speaking to the woman. He also claimed to have no idea what the cops were asking him about.

The woman’s Facebook wall was set for public viewing. She said that the officer-impersonator contacted as many as 30 of her other female friends, all through messages rather than wall postings.

The woman said when the man would call her, he’d say he was making traffic stops or fighting brush fires. At times she said she could hear sirens in the background (which clearly meant he was law enforcement, right?), and he gave her a picture of a white male with a military crew cut.

She said the supposed policeman requested she meet him at the fire station for a sexual encounter, which she refused. She said at that point, the phony officer began calling her names and she asked him to not contact her any further.

As well as posing as a police officer, he claimed to be in the U.S. Marines, as well as a volunteer firefighter. What a guy. The police were able to track the teen down by the phone numbers he used to call the women. Bradley Alonzo Bellamy was booked and charged with two counts of impersonating a police officer. He was released over the weekend.

What, if anything, could Facebook do to prevent this type of thing from recurring?
